Community Manager

About The Field School Hvar

The Field School of Hvar is an experiential, nature-based enrichment program for children ages 3–15 on the island of Hvar. Our work is guided by three values: stewardship, enlightenment, and dignity. We are a young, ambitious organization trying to turn education into an engine for community renewal. We are looking for a full-time, year-round Community Manager to help us reach that goal.

The Role

The Community Manager is the key point of contact for Field families and a critical operational manager within our team. It is a position of trust and leadership.

You will be the warm, capable presence that families rely on — from the first welcome email, through orientation, and across every gathering, excursion, and day-to-day question that arises while they are on the island. This includes significant administrative responsibility, from invoicing and enrollment records to local partnerships and classroom readiness.

This is a full-time, year-round position based in Jelsa. You will work primarily from our Coworking Lounge, a bright 110 m² open office across the hall from the Field School’s Learning Center.

What You'll Do

Parent relationship management — Send key family communications (welcome, pre-orientation, orientation); keep enrollment and payment records accurate; issue invoices and track payments; answer parent questions in person and by email; maintain school communication tools and platforms; keep the School Handbook and Community Contract current; host regular office hours; and be a visible, available resource to families.

Family services — Gather local apartment rentals, coordinate bookings for curated "Field Trips" with local winemakers, guides, and cultural institutions. Oversea the school-meals partnership, help families navigate local services, and maintain the "Field Guide" directory of recommended providers.

Community gatherings — Design and prepare key school ceremonies each session (orientation, student showcase, birthdays, farewells); host weekly low-cost gatherings for adults and for families; and create simple celebrations around Croatian national and local holidays.

School operations — Reset and organize the classroom between sessions; purchase supplies as needed; coordinate facilities and repairs with the resort team; promote free public Field workshops; advise leadership on local community and cultural matters; and manage local partnerships for spaces, programs, and family services.

Who You Are

Mission-driven. Whether it’s a commitment to sustainability, rural communities, education, or artisanship, it is easy to see how your values show up in your professional life, and why they have brought you to Field.

Competent. You are detail-oriented and tech-savvy. You can plan and structure complex, multi-part tasks in a systematic, organized way that is legible to others. You see tasks through to completion and honor deadlines. You check your own work before shipping it.

Strong interpersonally. You like and respect other people, even when you don’t agree with them. You hold boundaries with empathy and tact, and can metabolize feedback. You are well-spoken and capable of delivering a very high level of customer service. You are not inclined to gossip and interpersonal drama.

Entrepreneurial. You love learning new things, taking ownership, and seeing the impact of your work. You are open to new information, are adaptable to growth, and happy to chip in, even if it’s not squarely in your lane. You “wash the windows” - doing what is needed, including mundane tasks, in order to ensure a project’s success. You understand that failure and uncertainty are part of growth, and can see the forest for the trees.

Tools We Use

We work with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Meta, Band, Jotform, and Claude. You should be a confident digital native who can quickly learn and master tools built for non-developers. Our planning is loosely Agile. Comfort with collaborative, iterative ways of managing work is a must.
