Field Lab. Villaging

plan your move to the Mediterranean

August 23 - August 30 ||| Hvar, Croatia

it takes a village

it takes a village

A palazzo that costs less than your apartment. A villa that could house you and all of your friends. A simpler lifestyle, where kids have more freedom and you have more time.

Make the dream real.

Certain pockets of rural Europe are ripe for revitalization. They offer beautiful homes and walkable neighborhoods, deep traditions and proximity to nature. They welcome craftspeople, remote workers, creatives, and children.

If you’ve dreamed of moving to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain or another location in the Mediterranean, Field Lab. Villaging is an opportunity to connect with community developers and fellow ‘pilgrims’ to put the pieces together, tackling common hurdles like property selection, financing, healthcare, citizenship, education, and career in real time.

Program

Session Formats

Field Lab is about conversation. Presentations are informative, but interactive. No lectures here.

Experiences

This is a platform to connect with future neighbors. Expect conversations to spill over into cafes and beaches. Field Lab will offer dinners, wine tastings, volunteer opportunities, swim excursions, art activities, sunset hikes, and more.

Venues

Field Lab will take place across the townscape of Jelsa, a bucolic seaside village on the northern coast of island Hvar (pictured). Events like the Jelsa Biennial and the Jelsa Wine Festival keep Jelsa lively but uncrowded.

Childcare

Children are not peripheral. They are the fulcrum of community and have an important perspective in its design. Our superb, full-time enrichment program for children ages 4 and older invites children into the same reflection and world-building that their parents and their friends are doing. Our program for infants and toddlers models the communal approach to parenting that we seek to develop.

Where to stay

Field has reserved a block of apartments at the Fontana Resort to facilitate village-style co-living. Coworking and childcare are located on-site. Most participants will stay at Fontana, but it is not required. The resort is an easy 10-minute walk from the town of Jelsa, which has many vacation rentals on Airbnb and Booking.com. Participants can also bring an RV or tents to Camp Mina, which is a 30-minute walk or easy 10-minute bike ride from Fontana. For high-end villas, we recommend Hvar Away or Hvar Unlimited.
