Slow Travel for Families

Childcare, Accommodations, and Community

  • Enrichment.

The poet Louise Glück wrote: “We look at the world once, in childhood. The rest is memory.”

Our goal is to help children look, look, and look again. Through our full-time curriculum, we equip children with a spectrum of tools from the worlds of science, math, art, and the humanities, which they can draw on to hone their natural propensity for observation. This is not “summer school.” Instead our program activates the multiple benefits that children draw from time spent in nature, play, and creative pursuits.

  • Convenience.

Travelling with kids isn’t easy, but The Field School of Hvar sands off the rough edges. Private transportation from the airport lessens the sting of a long-flight. “Jetlag” milk and cookie parties ease the adjustment to a new time zone. Rooms come equipped with age-appropriate furniture, from potty gear for little ones to tween-friendly bedsheets. The shared kitchen boasts a toddler tower for little helpers. Spare diapers are on hand - just in case. For everything beyond Field School, there is an expert onsite concierge.

  • Connection.

“It takes a village to raise a child.” And yet the village does not always materialize. The Field School brings together interesting people from around the world, recreating the social feast of college life with the enhancement of maturity. Our family coliving accommodations intelligently combine privacy with shared spaces, while our program of daily wellness and cultural activities serve as a launchpad for lifelong friendships.

  • Presence.

The Field School is an intensive in contentment. To be moved to wonder by reality from one moment to the next is a foundation of well-being. Children can invite us into this state of awe. After all, the world is new to them. Hvar expands the aperture. Here, the sky is bluer, the light clearer, the silences deeper. It is a place that invites attention and ease.
